A Deco Christmas? Non?

French Xmas PosterWhilst my mother-in-law was visiting us from her home in rural France recently she asked me to put together this poster for her local communities Christmas event.

Now maybe it was the influence of all the Twenties and Thirties based television programs I’d spent the week watching (Art Deco Icons, Andrew Marr’s Making of Modern Britain, Glamour’s Golden Age: Hooked on Hollywood and High Flyers: How Britain Took to the Air) but I think this poster definitely has a distinctly Art Deco feel to it, don’t you?

Back to the Old School

Knowledge of SelfA couple of weeks ago I found myself returning to my roots as a designer, by producing a flyer for a club night, something I haven’t had the pleasure of doing for about 4 years now.

What makes this particular flyer all the more special for me is that not only is it for one of my earliest clients, the DJ collective Knowledge of Self who I’ve been working with for over 11 years now, but that the actual design features flyers from the beginnings of KOS’s personal history, many of which I had a hand in designing and producing.

The night itself takes pace on Sunday 3rd May, 2009 at the Concorde 2, so if you are a fan of Hip-Hop then head on down and break out some moves on the dance floor!

Tropic Blunder

Tropic BlunderJust put the finishing touches to a poster for the NCsoft Creative Concepts farewell party.

It made me laugh a LOT doing this, but it can’t shake the feelings of sadness and loss I have at seeing my friends and colleagues leaving.

It will be with a truly heavy heart, a churning stomach and genuine tears welling that I say goodbye to them as they leave the office for the last time.

The absolute unquestionable highlight of my NCsoft life has been the shows I’ve attended with Mr Reid, Mr Spafford and Mr Siddell. With them gone it means no more long and tiring, but immensely enjoyable weekends listening to Stephen’s constant sales banter, his endless stressing over the smallest details (most importantly, obviously, the money!) and the poring over of receipts, the load ins, the van journeys, the lunch runs, the soundtracks… not forgetting Chris’s unfaltering diligence to the sketch list and the scanner (still at least he might eat properly and go to the toilet once in a while now). wink

I feel unquantifiably privileged to have spent the last two and a half years, planning, scheming, dreaming, laughing, drinking, eating curry and generally geeking out (in a good way) with the most talented, genuine, intelligent and, yes I’m going to say it, AWESOME people I’ve ever met.
